Three years ago, I met Nina Doherty in Washington, D.C., where we were both advocating for the SHINE for Autumn Act and the Stillbirth Prevention Act. Today, Nina opens up about the heartbreaking loss of her grandbaby, Stella Joy — a tragedy that brought a double portion of grief as she mourned both her grandchild and the pain her daughter was enduring.

Nina, a mother of three with healthy pregnancies of her own, was shocked when her oldest daughter lost her baby at the end of what had been a picture-perfect pregnancy. One phone call changed everything: her granddaughter had died. Stillbirth remains overlooked and under-discussed in our country, leaving families unprepared and unsupported.

In the midst of her grief, Nina stepped into advocacy — raising awareness, fighting for change, and urging others to use their voices. In this episode, she shares practical encouragement on how to reach out to legislators, how to share your story with confidence, and why your voice truly can make an impact.

Nina and I have been in multiple meetings together, and I’ve learned so much from her wisdom, courage, and passion. I know this episode will encourage you and help ease the fear around speaking up. Tune in — you don’t want to miss this conversation.
